The peaceful demonstration was to show support for their leader Nhlanhla ‘Lux’ Dlamini who was set to appear in the court on Friday morning. Dlamini was arrested on Thursday after a case of housebreaking was opened against him on Wednesday. The Operation Dudula leader is accused of orchestrating the raid of a Dobsonville man’s home whom they had suspected of being a drug dealer.

Operation Dudula national Secretary-General, Zandile Dabula, addressed the protesters, urging them to remain disciplined. Under a strong police presence, supporters of the pro-South African movement sang and danced inside a section of the parking lot cordoned off by police tape, doing nothing to disturb those accessing the court.

At roughly 10:20, Dlamini’s legal team emerged from the court to confirm that he would be remanded in custody until Monday, when he will apply for bail. Operation Dudula members have vowed to return to the court on Monday to support his release from custody.
