Fun Day reward for Nova Pioneer Ruimsig learners

The school collected 180 kilograms of plastic bottles that will be recycled and used to manufacture learner desks.

Helping others gives new meaning to learning, and Nova Pioneer Ruimsig learners reminded the community that the spark of kindness resides in everyone. Even small school actions can fan that spark into a flame.

Giving assistance to others with challenges greater than their own gave the learners a brief glimpse of a new perspective as they learned to be more compassionate and understanding, not just towards others but also towards themselves.

On Thursday, February 24 Nova Pioneer Ruimsig was treated to a Fun Day that was hosted by Fielding Dreams Coaching Company.

The school collected 180 kilograms of plastic bottles that will be recycled and used to manufacture learner desks.

Principal Carla Hercules told the Northsider that the desks will later be donated to an underprivileged school on the West Rand.

All seven Nova Pioneer campuses competed in the Fielding Dreams Recycling competition, and Nova Pioneer Ruimsig campus were the proud winners for collecting the most plastic bottles.

“It was a school-wide initiative that saw teachers, parents, and learners bringing plastic bottles to school every day until the end of the competition,” said Carla.

As a reward for winning the competition the school’s sports field was filled with giant water inflatables for the learners to indulge in fun activities.

The sports coaches also facilitated a variety of games and obstacle courses while the learners were kept busy throughout the morning. They were even treated to ice cream at the end of a fun-filled day.
