West Rand Police launch school safety talks

Officers from the communication and social prevention units in the West Rand District took school safety talks to Thuto Lefa Senior Secondary School.

Officers from the communication and social prevention units in the West Rand District took school safety talks to Thuto Lefa Senior Secondary School on March 9. They were joined by representatives from 13 police stations in the West Rand District, the Gauteng Department of Education, Department of Community Safety, and the West Rand District Municipality Community Safety.

The visit was aimed at supporting teachers with the social ills they encounter at the school and encouraging learners to maintain discipline. “We also encouraged learners to focus on their studies and to become future leaders and role models,” said Sergeant Mulalo Ndou, corporate communications officer for the West Rand District.

He said 825 learners in Grades 8 and 9 were addressed on issues such as bullying, fighting, discipline, human trafficking, peer pressure, teenage pregnancy, substance abuse and being in possession of dangerous weapons.

District Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana and Captain Eddie Boboko thanked members and stakeholders for making the day a success.
