Cancer Warrior Kids ride with the H.O.G.s

Members of Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) – Clearwater Chapter spread some goof with a charity bike ride for the Cupcakes of Hope Warriors

On Saturday, February 26 members of Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) – Clearwater Chapter spoilt a few of the Cancer Warrior Kids from Cupcakes Of Hope with a ride on their Harleys. Charity officer for Clearwater Chapter, Lucy Nel said the core value of their group is charity.

“Cupcakes of Hope came around on this venture and we supported them by buying their cupcakes. Lori-Anne Hill started telling us more about them and I suggested that we take the Cupcakes Of Hope Cancer Warrior Kids on a bike ride because sad to say, they may not grow to adulthood where they might own a bike. So let us make their day special today.”

The ride on the Harleys covered a 20km route down Hendrik Potgieter Road, into Allen’s Nek, through Weltevreden Park onto the N1 to Gordon Road and back to Town Square next to Hillfox.

Lori-Anne shared her excitement. “This is a big moment for a lot of our Warriors because it is something they have never done before.” The NPO helps 170 kids a month with daily needs and medical fees. In February they handed out 45 care packages to 20 oncology hospitals across the country.

Before they could hit the road, the little warriors were given a safety tutorial that showed them how to ride on a bike. The convoy included four marshals and a safety officer.

One of the warriors, Lumka Satsha could not hide her excitement once the ride was done. “It was really nice. I enjoyed the ride so much. It was fun,” she smiled.
