Scouts celebrate founder’s birthday

The 1st Eagles Meerkats, Cubs and Scouts recently celebrated their founder, Lord Robert Baden-Powell’s birthday.

During the second half of February, parents, teachers and learners might have noticed a few somewhat different uniforms at school.

This is because the 1st Eagles Meerkats, Cubs and Scouts celebrated their founder, Lord Robert Baden-Powell’s birthday. Each year on February 22 these learners get special permission to wear their Scouts SA uniform to school to celebrate BP Day.

They not only proudly wore their uniforms to school, they also attended the West Rand District BP Day celebrations on Saturday, February 19. The event, which was held at the Gilwell Scout Training Grounds next to Florida Lake, unfortunately was dampened by morning showers, although it didn’t stop these dedicated scouts from experiencing the thrilling adventure that comes with the 1st Eagle Scout badge.

On Thursday, February 24 the little Meerkats made sure they were noticed when Ethan Heyns from Remihelp Academy in Roodepoort wore his uniform to school.
