Laerskool De La Rey Primary makes acting principal’s appointment permanent

A 20-year journey culminates in top job at historic school

The brighter light shining ahead, the greater the possibilities.

Two decades since her first lessons given in a classroom in Cape Town in 1992, Rochelle Hank now carries the official tile of Principal. Following on from her deputy principal role at Laerskool Die Ruiter, Principal Hank came to Laerskool De La Rey Primary to take the acting principal role at the beginning of 2021. Less than a year later, Dellies made her appointment official on December 1.

Eager to elevate the Dellies family to new heights, Principal Hank envisions an inclusive atmosphere at the school. “We the staff want to achieve excellence across the board. We are one of the few multilingual schools in our District, and we are striving towards cohesion in a multicultural society. We want to impart values, norms and good characteristics that will make our community and society stronger and better. In God we trust,” she stated.

Every school has their own set of challenges and Rochelle navigates these with heart and compassion. The fallout from the global health panic has affected some areas more than others, but the spirit and attitude of the Dellies family remain strong. “The community has really stepped up and has adopted our school, and thereby keep their eyes and ears open in keeping our school safe,” she said.

The new rock in the Dellies foundation is determined to instil an ethos that will propel those around her forward. Concluding, Rochelle said, “Together we can and will make this the best, safest and most caring school for all learners and their families. We are united in our goals, dreams and focus for what we want for our school. We are thankful that we can bond together during this pandemic and come through it even stronger and better.”
