Davidsonville Clinic site gets green light to host Region C’s outpatient rehabilitation centre

Facility is in the final stages of preparation for opening expected in the coming months

A new centre of recovery is coming to the doorsteps of those who need it.

Built on the same site as the Davidsonville clinic, recreation centre and library, a new outpatient rehabilitation facility is in the final stages of readiness. Representatives from the Department of Social Development (DSD) and the Department of Health were at the site on Friday, February 18, to take official custodianship of the new buildings. Erected in late November, the prefabricated structure measures roughly 150 square metres, excluding the ablution facilities.

The project has been in the pipeline for several years, with the global health panic putting the final stages on ice. Originally meant for a site in Cosmo City, Ward 71 councillor, René Benjamin was instrumental in getting the facility to her ward. “The Cosmo City site has been used for something else so when it became available on the books, I was quick to offer to bring it here,” said Councillor Benjamin.

The public facility will provide outpatient diagnosis and treatment for those suffering with addiction and will be staffed predominantly by social workers from the DSD. The structure has six air-conditioned offices, a multi-purpose room that can be subdivided, a reception area as well as a kitchenette and toilets. The facility is one of the few of its kind in the city and the only one in Region C.

The final snags are being attended to, the furnishings are on their way, in hope of opening the doors to the public by the end of this quarter.
