Goodbye dad

Honeydew resident, Clive Wilson was remembered during his memorial service by those who loved him.

Friends and family of Clive Wilson came together on February 24 at St Paul’s Methodist Church to bid him farewell with an intimate memorial service. Wilson had been in hospital after he was brutally attacked during a house robbery in his Wilgespruit home on January 18.

It was discovered while he was still in hospital that the 87-year-old had meningitis and he was immediately put on antibiotics. Although his condition seemingly improved, he, unfortunately, passed away.

His oldest daughter, Susan Edmond said her father’s death was a reflection of the state of our country. “No one deserves to die like he did. I hope he is resting now and is with his wife, our mom, whom he loved.”

She spoke fondly about the man he was. “Dad was always a healthy and strong man. He loved sport, especially football. Whenever I went for a visit I would be sure to brush up on the sport. He was so full of character, and reflecting on his life brings back all of his fun quirks.” Edmond said her father was also a very stubborn person who rarely changed his mind once he had made a decision.

The deceased’s middle daughter, Sandra Allan lives in Australia and unfortunately was not in attendance. She did, however, send a eulogy and shared her fondest memory. “I am so grateful to all the time we spent together. Thank you for being a great grandfather. You and mom emigrated from England on a brave adventure and you provided a memorable childhood. Since mom passed, your grief has been real. I believe this is why you persisted on staying at the house. You are now with the love of your life,” the eulogy read. “I don’t know how long it will take to grieve this tremendous loss and it is the circumstances around your death that make it harder.”

Clive Wilson was brutally beaten during a house robbery during which his car was also stolen. The incident is still under investigation.
