Residents enjoy the first Smile Foundation movie night

On Saturday, February 12 the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden (WSNBG) was turned into an outdoor cinema where members of the community and their families spoiled each other while watching a movie.

The Smile Foundation launched their first Smile Movie Night under the stars picnic and all who attended agreed that there was nothing quite as magical as an outdoor cinema experience.

All proceeds from the event will go to the Smile Foundation, which supports children in need of reconstructive surgery.

Smile Foundation is passionately committed to making a difference in the lives of South African children living with treatable facial conditions such as facial paralysis, cleft lip, cleft palate, ear and nose conditions, craniofacial abnormalities and burn wounds.

“We are a non-profit organisation that brings people together to provide expert surgical intervention and pre and post-operative care for the beneficiaries,” said Kim Robertson Smith, the Smile Foundation General Manager.

According to the Foundation, in addition to carrying the costs of the patient’s surgery and recovery, they invest in the infrastructure of the public healthcare system by purchasing medical equipment, upgrading existing facilities for the Departments of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and implementing skills development programmes for surgeons, nurses and other medical personnel.

“Our mission is to positively transform the lives of children living with facial anomalies,” said Kim.
