Welridge Academy fosters welcoming environment for new teachers

Courtney revealed to the Northsider that the funniest thing a learner has ever asked her is, “What do you want to be when you grow up?"

Many new teachers find themselves in what can be a terrifying situation, not only learning to feel comfortable standing in front of learners for the first time, but learning to navigate relationships with other teachers and the community.

Welridge Academy based in Weltevreden Park made sure their new teachers felt welcome by showing them that they really care, and made noticeable efforts to include them.

It did not stop there, as the school took the opportunity to integrate their new stock of teachers into the school’s culture.

One of the new teachers is Ben Pretorius who joined the school’s senior phase. In his short time with the school, he has already left his mark with his outstanding personality and countless interesting stories to tell.

Ben told the Northsider that his favourite song to beat the morning traffic to school is anything country and a bit of metal.

Grade 5 register teacher Courtney Law is the new English and Social Science teacher and has already made an impact on the staff and learners with her kind and caring nature.

Courtney revealed to the Northsider that the funniest thing a learner has ever asked her is, “What do you want to be when you grow up? “Best compliment from a learner? ‘You’re so active’,” said Courtney.

Another new addition to the school is Grade 2 teacher Jade Jacobs who got to know and love everyone at the school courtesy of her unrivalled enthusiasm for teaching her Grade 2 class.

According to Jade, she considers her most valuable class resources to be her chalk and chalk board.

Welridge Academy learners got to know new senior phase teacher Morne Kotze as a good role model with his everlasting patience and friendly nature.

Morne told the Northsider that on his way to school he likes to rock out to the sound of The Offspring to help with the traffic.

The school also welcomed Robyn Hofmeyr as the Arts and Dance coach who will be a leader and mentor for competitive learners.
