Welties Library relaunches its in-person story times

“Reading is vitally important and this will allow children to develop a love of reading, as well as provide a platform for interaction and socialising in the library.”

In conjunction with World Read Aloud Day, the Weltevreden Park Public Library will be relaunching its in-person story times on Thursday, February 3 at 10:00.

Weltevreden Park Senior Librarian, Gwyneth Perry told the Northsider that the library is planning to continue hosting their story times every Thursday morning at 10:00.

“We hope to reach out to pre-schoolers, children being home-schooled and any children who are able to attend our story hours.

“Reading is vitally important and this will allow children to develop a love of reading, as well as provide a platform for interaction and socialising in the library,” said Gwyneth.

World Read Aloud Day is about celebrating the power of reading aloud. It encourages children and adults to grab a book, find an audience and read aloud.

The day is held annually and celebrated by over 173 countries around the world. This year it will be held on Wednesday, February 2.

According to Gwyneth, the best way to celebrate World Read Aloud Day is to read a book to someone, whether it’s one person or 100 people, as sharing a story through your voice is what the day is all about.

Weltevreden Park Library is situated at 1203 Fern Road and can be contacted on 011 679 3406 for further information.
