Eager new learners made their way through the gates at Oak Hill Private Academy in Radiokop for the first day of big school on January 12. On the other side were nervous and slightly forlorn parents waving goodbye to their little ones.
The chaotic morning soon will grow into months and years of learning and playing for learners and teachers at the school. Kirsten Solan, who teaches Grade 1 said, “I am looking forward to giving the learners the best education possible. I hope the happiest memories are created to set the standard for the rest of the year.”
Bronwyn Mogashwa, who was dropping off her little girl shared, “I feel good. I am just glad we are finally here. We are excited. This is a new school for us. It is smaller but I love the warmth here.”
Crawford Academy in Ruimsig opened their doors to welcome the littlest ones starting from Grade 000 to 0. “The new Grade 1s to 3s are only coming to school tomorrow. Today it was just the little ones and we anticipated that it would be quite busy hence some of the teachers are here assisting with the smaller grades,” admissions officer, Thando Mashinini said.
