Continuing the alternate day rotation schedule, Discovery welcomed their new Grade 1s over two days, January 12 and 13.
Halving the numbers but doubling the effort, each Grade 1 teacher took their classes on a tour of their new surroundings. Using a combinations of rhymes and fun phrases to lock in the knowledge, teachers and their assistants created a comforting environment to ease the first day nerves.
Principal Raymond Peters penned a message for new and returning members of the Discovery Primary School family:
On behalf of the SGB, SMT, staff and myself, we want to welcome all our learners, parents, and guardians to the start of the 2022 Academic Year.
What a busy and exciting day we had since the learners arrived at school from 07:00 this morning. It was interesting and exciting to see how the Grade R and 1 learners already adapted to our core values which are:
• Be safe
• Be respectful
• Be responsible
• Be healthy
Please also continue to mirror and teach them the golden rules of Covid-19. Some nuggets observed and shared by our Grade 1 educators, and we wish them and the rest of our staff all the best. The day went exceptionally well. There were no tears, the learners managed the transition into “big school” well. They had lots of fun. The superheroes handled it well.
My personal mantra to all our learners: HARD WORK AND DETERMINATION ARE THE WATCHWORDS TO SUCCESS.
