JRA hands over 252 Signalised Intersections to GDPRT

'The GDPRT has committed to intensifying efforts to conduct repairs.'

The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) recently released a statement informing City of Johannesburg residents of the updated traffic signals jurisdiction.

According to the statement all signalised intersections on provincial roads will be managed and maintained by the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport (GDPRT) from January.

In the statement published on 11 January, the GDPRT announced its takeover of 252 signalised intersections on provincial roads.

“The GDPRT has committed to intensifying efforts to conduct repairs and render maintenance services for defective traffic signals along provincial routes,” the department said.

Intersections in Roodepoort include the following:
• Ontdekkers Road and Hendrik Potgieter Road/ Third Avenue in Maraisburg
• Randfontein Road (R41) and Corlett Avenue in Witpoortjie
• Randfontein Road (R41) and Gustav Street/ Durban Deep Road
• Randfontein Road (R41) and Quellerie Street in Witpoortjie
• Randfontein Road (R41) and Main Reef Road/ Nick Toomey Boulevard
• Randfontein Road (R41) and Goedehoop Street

“The JRA continues to service a total of 2 079 signalised intersections on municipal roads, including those owned by South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL),” the statement concluded.
