Roodepoort — A 59-year-old man awaits sentencing after being found guilty on 385 counts of child pornography.

Wilgeheuwel resident, Eugene Trevor-Roberts, was found in possession of 385 individual images categorised by the Film and Publications Act as amounting to child pornography. The images confiscated from a computer at the man's home showed girls aged between three and 17 either engaged in sexual activity with adult men or being exploited for sexual purposes.

In February 2020, police responded to information received of possible illegal activity relating to child pornography. Within days, members of the Serial and Electronic Crimes Unit linked Trevor-Roberts' IP address to downloads completed between June 5 and 7, 2019. On February 11, 2020 police raided the man's Minitum Street home where they would confiscate two physical hard drives totalling 9 terabytes.

Analysis of the hard drives was conducted in June 2020 by both police and the Film and Publications Board which revealed the graphic extent of the material. Of the images, two showed adult men sexually violating females aged between three and five. A total of 240 images showed girls aged between six and 12 engaged in sexual activity with adult men, while a further 143 were of similar acts with girls aged 13 to 17.

Trevor-Roberts pleaded guilty to all 385 counts in October this year and was due for sentencing on December 14, but will now appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates' Court on January 20.
