Providing comfort to the most vulnerable

Matla A Bana provided comfort packs to the Honeydew Police Station

Volunteers from Matla A Bana carefully packaged teddy bears, toiletries and snacks at the Afrique Boutique Hotel in Poortview on December 2. Lizel van Eeden shared that the packages were meant for the Honeydew and Diepsloot Police Stations’ Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences units.

“These are comfort packs for little girls aged between three and eight. Honeydew Police cover a very big area so we have child-friendly spaces at those police stations. Inside there is a teddy bear, panties, a snack pack and toiletries with face cloths. When we pack ones for older girls such as teenagers, we include roll-on and sanitary towels. These are for the younger ones so they also get a colouring book, crayons and a layman’s tool that we use. For instance if children do not have a counsellor at school, they can work through their emotions with the help of the booklet.”

Lizel shared that some of the products were donated by Nedbank and one of the finalists in the Mrs Krugersdorp pageant.

Matla A Bana supplies comfort packs for girls who have been raped or abused. The packs are handed over to the children when they report the crime to the police.
