Joburg multiparty Mayoral Committee eager to ‘fix the City’

Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, Dr Mpho Phalatse, announces the City's new MMCs.

Earlier today, Monday, December 13, the Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, Dr Mpho Phalatse, announced the City of Johannesburg multiparty mayoral committee.

According to a statement released by the City of Johannesburg, this multiparty committee follows after weeks of negotiations between political parties to bring about a stable government in the City of Johannesburg.

The new MMCs are as follows:
• Finance – Councillor Julie Suddaby (DA)
• Group Corporate and Shared Services – Councillor Leah Knott (DA)
• Transport – Councillor Funzela Ngobeni (Action SA)
• Development Planning – Councillor Belinda Echeozonjoku (DA)
• Housing – Councillor Mlungisi Providence Mabaso (IFP)
• Economic Development – Councillor Nkuli Mbundu (Action SA)
• Health and Social Development – Councillor Franco de Lange (FF+)
• Community Development – Councillor Ronald Winston Harris (ACDP)
• Environment and Infrastructure Services – Councillor Michael Sun (DA)
• Public Safety – Councillor David Tembe (Action SA)

“I am honoured to lead this team of dynamic MMCs as we get down to the task of getting things done in the City of Johannesburg. I have no doubt that each member of this multiparty mayoral committee will do everything in their power to ensure the best results for the residents of this great city in each of their portfolios,” said Mayor Phalatse.

She concluded that while she was under no illusion that success would be achieved overnight, she was confident that this multiparty government was more than capable to deal with the task ahead and will get things done.
