Roodepoort detective unit arrest man in connection with GBV assault case

Man to appear in Roodepoort Magistrates' Court in due course.

A man has been arrested in connection with a violent assault caught on surveillance cameras. He will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court in due course.

The hunt for the man began on December 7, the day Palesa Mothokwa opened a case of assault with intent do to grievous bodily harm at Roodepoort Police Station. Palesa was beaten brutally by a man she claimed to be an ex-lover with whom she had recently broken up. Her attacker had waited for her near her place of employment at the bottom of General Pienaar Avenue, before attacking her in the store’s entrance.

Roodepoort Police spokesperson, Captain Juanita Yorke, confirmed the man was arrested on Thursday, December 9. “Roodepoort Police detectives traced and arrested one male suspect for assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm. There is a complete zero tolerance approach when it comes to gender-based violence against woman and children in the Roodepoort policing precinct,” explained Captain Yorke.

She praised the station’s members, saying, “Detectives are to be commended for their commitment to the community and their dedication to making sure that suspects are traced, arrested and brought before the court of law”.
