Logwood residents impress with Christmas concert

The Christmas concert was put together solely by the residents

There was music and there was dancing at Logwood Village on November 24 as the residents put together their annual Christmas concert.

The concert began with solo singers to some classic audience favourites, progressed to solo dancers that wowed the crowd, which led to the group dances before concluding the show with some beloved Christmas songs.

Administrator at Logwood, Melaney Scott beamed with pride when she spoke about the labour each resident put into the concert.

“We didn’t plan this as office and management personnel. I think because of Covid and all the activities being banned and residents not being able to go out or really see their parents, they got bored and they planned their own concert. But we didn’t know about it.”

“The care workers started helping them because it was something for them to do. However, the music you heard in there was all the residents’. Everything down to the programme list was done by the residents. A week ago they came into the office, told us about the date and formally invited us,” she said.

Melaney admitted that some of the acts were cut because they initially had 42 performances. “It was so special. I really think they enjoyed it. They all had smiles on their faces. One or two of them were a bit shy but they all had the biggest smiles and they enjoyed themselves, which was the goal.”

Logwood Village is a home to intellectually disabled adults. Through their programmes they provide support and development to their more than 100 residents.
