NG Kerk Culembeeck hosts Tea and Cake day to show appreciation for their seniors

Congregation has great respect and endearment for the older generation

Every opportunity should be taken to show love to those who have walked the path.

NG Kerk Culembeeck invited the seniors of their congregation for a morning of sweet treats and hot refreshments, November 26. With cakes backed by the young members of the church, roughly 40 seniors gathered in the church’s hall for their special moment of praise.

Congregants Audrey du Plessis gave a moving talk about her reverence for the elderly the before Mariette Jonck echoed her sentiments. “We were really happy to have so many of our seniors here today. Because of the struggles our community has had with Covid we had to give them a special day to let them know that we will never neglect them,” said Mariette.

The seniors filled up on cupcakes, milk tart, koeksisters and other finger foods while washing it down with their biscuit accompanied teas and coffees. Speaking after the event, Mariette said, “The elderly are a special part of our community. They are a generation that has come a long way and if we don’t respect them we lose something special. We appreciate our older people. God loves them and they are welcome at our church to see how we look after our community”.
