The community rallied behind the local animal shelter in a time of need
The kittens at Kitty Kazz kitten rescue have been purring with joy with recent donations to the centre including much- needed fencing on the premises.
Founder, Karin Donald said the community has rallied around them and has been a much-needed silver lining. “We have been through a rough patch lately. We had the dreaded panleukophenia virus and sadly we were not alone,” she said. “The feline parvo has been showing its face all over the country and in shelters. This is a highly contagious and deadly virus to unvaccinated young kittens. We have had to build new enclosures in order to keep the kittens safe.”
Donald said she put out a plea for fencing that would assist in building kitteries and separate enclosures. “We were overjoyed when the community pulled together to help us. Jenny Martins, who’s a resident of Sunninghill, paid numerous vet bills and sewed blankets for us. She also bought us a second-hand Wendy house and we can use this to isolate the kittens while we build. Yvette de Klerk who is all the way in Singapore has helped us financially,” she continued. “Eleonora and Brandin from Irene donated fencing that was left over from their cattio. This is just what we need to build new cattios with the help of Morne and Etienne from Pet Safety Solutions.”
It is this kind of support for local NPOs that prove that acts of kindness can never go out of style and the only way to uplift a community is by coming together. Donald said the donations and assistance have been incredible. “Tthe pan leuk outbreak is finally behind us but it has exhausted our bank accounts. We have had to implement strict sanitation protocols. We still need help from people or corporates who can help us so that we can continue the work we do.”
They currently need F10 cleaning products, large latex gloves, disposable hospital shoe covers and disposable hospital overalls. Donations to the shelter can be made on:
