Beloved Buddy critical after CIT-related shootout

The committed Border Collie was shot in the rear upper leg and the right front paw with an AK-47.

Earlier this morning, Wednesday, November 17 at approximately 08:20 BCI Security received reports of a CIT-related incident in the Maraisburg area.

Members of the West Rand K9 Unit also responded. It is believed that members soon spotted one of the suspects’ vehicles in the Florida area near the Cecil Payne Shooting Range.

A brief shootout subsequently ensued between the suspects and the police officers. Unfortunately, the beloved K9 Buddy got caught in the middle and was shot in the upper rear leg and the right front paw with an AK-47.

The committed Border Collie sustained serious wounds and is in a critical condition. Even though he was stabilised at a local vet, he had to be rushed to a veterinary hospital in Onderstepoort, Pretoria for further medical attention.

Warrant Officer Bennie Wiese who works with Buddy in the field is currently with him, hoping that his condition would improve soon.

National Police spokesperson, Colonel Athlenda Mathe has been contacted for comment on the matter.
