Happiness is in your own hands

'You have to make a decision every day to be happy, and then do everything you can to stick to that decision.'

It is scary to think that 2021 is drawing to a close. With only a little more than six weeks left, it feels as if this year has been on fast forward, with all of us just hanging on for dear life in an attempt to get to the end relatively unscathed.

Realising this, and taking into account the stressful times we have had to endure, not just the past year, but the year before that, it is no wonder we all feel tired, run down and demotivated. With everything going on around us, and our roller coaster of emotions, there are days that we experience more feelings of unhappiness and leave us questioning life as a whole.

It is also said that you alone can determine your happiness by making a conscious decision every day to choose to be happy, and, with that in mind, a decision was made that November is not too early to be excited about Christmas. Our excuse? Simple, it was a long and difficult year so why not put up our Christmas tree and brighten everything up?

So we obeyed the voice of the Christmas spirit, and put all our Christmas decorations together, and within a few days, our office was transformed into a Christmas wonderland, with twinkling lights, sparkly tinsel and beautifully decorated Christmas trees.

It might seem like an insignificant thing to you, but, (I may be speaking for myself), I definitely feel a bit more motivated and excited for the rest of this year every time I walk into our festive office, which is making a marked difference to my daily mood.

My challenge to you this week is simply this, don’t let others decide your happiness, you are the only one who can do that. Take control and do what makes you happy, and don’t fret too much about what others think about it.

Until next week, stay safe and look out for each other …
