The Christmas in October initiative brought all the fun and joy expected of the festive season, including an appearance by Father Christmas himself.

Organised by the IIE MSA third-year students, the event was part of their public relations efforts and integrated learning module. “Our assignment this semester was to create a campaign for a cause-related organisation. We did #ChristmasInOctober and the organisation we chose was Pathways Roodepoort,” said Ivana Uneanya.

Pathways is a stimulation centre for children and young adults with severe mental and physical disabilities.

Activities of the day included dancing to favourite Christmas songs, water balloons for the kids and of course, snacks and drinks. The Thamidish Foundation donated art supplies, colouring books and wax crayons for the guests of honour.

“The purpose of this assignment was to acquire real-life skills that will prepare us for the workplace,” Uneanya added.

Sunette Pretorius, Principal at Pathways said the event was great and much-needed fun for everyone. “This means that people still care. It means a lot that the young community gets involved and they can see that each child has a personality. When you give your love, you also receive love and that was really nice.”
