#HighCutsCares pulls out all the stops for children’s charity

FUNdraiser held at Euro Sports Club in aid of The Bethany House Trust

A fresh look and a fly cut may fade, but the art of giving never goes out of style.

Taking their vibe outside the confines of their business premises, HighCuts Barbershop and co-collaborators from their Bickel Street headquarters held a FUNdraiser for a Krugersdorp-based children’s charity, October 17. Hosted at Roodepoort Athletics Club by Euro Sports Club, the #HighCutsCares initiative dedicated their first charity event to the boys and girls of The Bethany House Trust on October 17.

Owner of HighCuts Barbershop, Abdul-Aziz Narkedien, has been using his shears as a tools for good, offering free haircuts for the homeless and those in need. A regular fixture for the residents at Bethany House, it was only natural that they would be first in the charity-chair. “The kids really love Abdul-Aziz, he has a great way of getting them to relax. They are really enjoying their afternoon out,” said Bethany House child care worker, Lebo Sekonyela.

The enthusiastic blade-smith roped in the assistance of Wesley Enslin from nursery and primary school sports development organisation, Sporty Kidz. Casual games of dodgeball and baseball got the kids moving before the throwing of water balloons helped them cool down on the hot Sunday afternoon.

Stalls were available for marketeers, and Nicole Gace’s Gourmet-on-the-Go came to support. “Kids deserve to be protected. That isn’t the way it always is but that’s the way life should be. We need to be there to help those who help direct them on a better path,” said the Wilgeheuwel-based home cooked meals chef and confectioner. “Our main focus is the kids and to support this wonderful cause for them,” added Xanté Smith of Xquisite Vapes and Tattoos.

The aim of the day was to raise funds for the children charity, and Tebogo Sekoati from Euro Sports Club was happy to provide the platform. “Abdul-Aziz is a very kind and generous person. What he does is amazing. It takes tremendous selflessness and we live in a world where that is rare. It’s very impressive,” said Tebogo.

A feast of boerewors rolls and soft drinks was interspersed with face-painting and more educational games before all the energy was sapped. Appreciative for the opportunity to help, Abdul-Aziz said, “Thank you to all our supporters and volunteers who took the time out of their day to make a difference in our community. This day wouldn’t have been possible without you guys. You are truly appreciated by me and those whose lives we’re impacting. God bless you all.”
