A family home in Gerrit Maritz Street was destroyed by fire on September 4.

Community members noticed the flames coming from the house shortly after 17:15, immediately contacting the fire department.

City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (CoJEMS) arrived at roughly 18:10 and the two CoJEMS engines dispatched took roughly an hour to extinguish the blaze.

According to those close to the scene, the residents of the house were not at home at the time of the fire, escaping any harm, but losing much of their personal belongings.

“Fortunately no injuries or fatalities were reported and the cause of fire could not be determined,” confirmed CoJEMS spokesperson, Nana Radebe.
