CPF recruitment drive targeting youth

The chairperson said he was especially interested in recruiting young people to the CPF to deter them from a life of crime.

The CPF in Muldersdrift is encouraging community members and residents to join them to tackle safety and crime prevention in the area. Chairperson, Charles Mbewe said he is especially keen on getting young people to be a part of the CPF.

He is very eager to get the youth into the policing sector and to show them the stark consequences of a life of crime. “We want to take them and teach them about policing and deter them from doing crime. They must learn about the law of the country and that laws need to be respected. Once we take them along on our patrols and training, they will understand the kind of work we do, and I am certain we will groom them to be upstanding adults.”

Mbewe said he believed having young people in the CPF would result in them being reasonable and responsible members in the community. “I see young people get involved in drugs and the sorts, and they don’t know the impact a life of crime will have on them, or the future impact a criminal record will have; it closes doors for you,” he said.

He said they would be starting another process of registering patrollers at the police station because most of the members were newly elected. “We’ll be including the old patrollers with the new names. This way we can know who the patrollers are and once we embark patrols in these areas, we will know who to call.”
