Spring Market at local donkey sanctuary

According to the organisers, members of the community will have the chance to interact with friendly, sociable rescued donkeys, while shopping at the fabulous stalls and filling up on all the wonderful eats and goodies.

Rest ur Ass Donkey Sanctuary based in Zonnehoeve AH in the Ruimsig area will be celebrating the beginning of spring with a Spring Market at their premises on Saturday, September 4.

According to the organisers, members of the community will have the chance to interact with friendly, sociable rescued donkeys, while shopping at the fabulous stalls and filling up on all the wonderful eats and goodies.

“Strict Covid-19 protocols will apply. We are going to have around 50 stalls selling among others Thai, Indian and Malay food, a Sausage Saloon, baked goods, candles, henna, arts and crafts, toys, pet products, handbags and lots more,” said Rest ur Ass Donkey Sanctuary co-founder, Lloreen le Roux.

Critter Rescue SA will also have their Adoption Day at the sanctuary the same day, while children will have the opportunity to interact with, brush and take photos with the donkeys.

Drummie Nation Drum Majorettes which is a sporting team for young teen girls between the ages of 13 to 18 with no specific school affiliation on the West Rand will be performing on the day.

When asked about any future markets after this one, Lloreen confirmed to the Northsider that they would have a Christmas Market later in the year.

Rest ur Ass Donkey Sanctuary is planning on having monthly donkey visit days, and members of the community are advised to keep an eye on the Rest ur Ass Donkey Sanctuary Facebook page.

It was in 2016 when Lloreen and her husband Albert le Roux witnessed the abuse some donkeys were suffering.

As an animal lover this really upset Lloreen, and she told Albert that one day they would have a sanctuary for abused donkeys where they can retire, and just live and breathe.

The animal-loving couple adopted their first three donkeys, Herbie, Eli and Simon from the SPCA in Benoni.
