Women’s Day celebrations bring joy in Video

The women in Video Informal settlement were treated to a luncheon on women's day where they gifted with blankets and food packets

Blankets, beanies and food packets were distributed to the elderly residents in Video informal settlement during their Women’s Day celebrations. On August 8, Muldersdrift Cares and Beanies for Beings handed out Legos and gifts, sanitary packs and hot water bottles to all the ladies, mothers and sisters in the Video community. During the week, 60 blankets and food packs were handed out to the elderly.

This was followed by a luncheon hosted by the Muldersdrift Cares organisers. Shenan Cochrane said, “The ladies from Beanies for Beings handed out gift packs to each of the more than 80 women to acknowledge the role each one plays in the community, and to thank them for being the amazing women they are.”

Shenan shared the intention to train 50 women as community first-aiders, appealing to people who would be willing to sponsor the training and kit. “It costs R550 per person and the concept is that these women will assist in an emergency until help or paramedics arrive. Emergency services can take a while and sometimes lives are lost because of the lack of knowledge.” She said once equipped with the training, the women would also deal with incidents of abuse, rape and electrocution.
