Baby abandoned in Durban Deep field rescued by Roodepoort police

Public asked to please share information on parents' possible whereabouts

Oblivious to the passing world, a lucky newborn may yet experience the beauty of the world.

An infant, believed to be roughly six months old has been found abandoned in a field in Durban Deep. Labourers passing through the area made the out-of-place discovery around 15:00 on August 2, alerting Roodepoort Police to the situation.

The police took custody of the malnourished baby girl and have since moved her to a safe house where she is being cared for. The infant was found wrapped in a pink blanket and was wearing a caramel coloured babygrow with white sleeves. On the babygrow are two teddy bears, the larger being grey and the other red, as well as the word ‘friends’ printed on the chest.

Should anyone have any information on the identity of the child or the parents’ possible whereabouts, they are asked to please contact Roodepoort Police as soon as possible. Information may be shared in confidentiality directly with Captain Sonja Prinsloo on 011 279 6528.
