JMPD recover suspected stolen goods headed for the border

Intelligence reports led authorities to house in Florida

Removing items from their owner is one thing, but making a clean getaway is most important.

Members of Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), with the assistance of Florida Police, seized a large haul of suspected stolen items on July 23. The authorities were following up on intelligence reports indicating that possible looted goods were being stored at a house in Florida. The owner of the Daisy Street home is a Zimbabwean national, and JMPD believe the stolen items were soon to be heading north of the border.

At the identified location officers found suspected stolen construction materials such as floor tiles, zinc sheets, cement, a toilet, window frames, door frames, water pipes as well as a water tank. Perfectly timed, two Zimbabwean nationals arrived at the house while police were conducting their search, and were caught in possession of 32 more boxes of tiles and a bucket full of marijuana.

JMPD spokesperson, Xolani Fihla, confirmed, “One South African and two Zimbabwean nationals were arrested and detained at Florida Police for possession of dagga, and possession of suspected stolen property. The Toyota Condor and trailer which were intended to be used to transport the suspected stolen property were booked in at the SAPS Lenasia pound.”
