Chocolate Yorkie saved from being sold on the streets

“We contacted police who immediately sent the SPCA, we were informed by the SPCA that he has the right to sell the dog."

On Thursday, July 22 a man attempted to sell a small chocolate Yorkie at Makro Strubens Valley and later moved to Lifestyle Crossing at the corner of Hendrik Potgieter Road and Nic Diederichs Boulevard in Wilgeheuwel.

Owner of BCI Security, Corinda Loots was at Makro Strubens Valley when she noticed a man approaching an elderly couple with the dog.

Corinda was busy shopping and couldn’t get outside, and when she eventually did the man had already left the premises in a taxi.

Whilst keeping an eye on the taxi, she called for assistance from her team and a search was done for most of the morning as the elderly couple had mentioned that he was trying to sell the dog, and they believed something was wrong.

According to Corinda, she and her team immediately posted on their BCI Animal Care group asking if anybody knew about the dog.

Shortly afterwards a BCI client called and told them that a guy at Lifestyle Crossing was trying to sell a dog. BCI found the man standing with a for sale board, and the dog was with him.

“We contacted the police who immediately sent the SPCA. We were informed by the SPCA that he had the right to sell the dog.

“We were not at all comfortable with allowing this doggie to be sold, especially in the condition it was.

“We then made a decision to buy the dog, even though it goes against our rules, but we felt that he needed to be rescued,” said Corinda.

The dog was taken to a vet for a check-up immediately and to be groomed, and BCI Security is now the legal owner until such time that the owner is found.

According to Corinda, a thorough investigation will be done before the dog is handed over to anyone claiming to be his owner.

Members of the community are advised not to contact the vet. The BCI Security office can be contacted during office hours, should anybody require any information.
