Honeydew Toastmasters meet for ‘World population day’

They met virtually for their unique takes on the theme and to introduce the new committee

The Honeydew Toastmasters Club met virtually on July 12 under the theme of World Population Day. Although it was not in person, members were jovial and excited not only to share their prepared speeches but to welcome the incoming committee.

Gemma Piggott’s speech titled ‘Moulding Clay’ spoke about the importance of mentorship, and the people who have been mentors in her life. She said, “A mentor can be anybody in your life. Writing this speech encouraged me to go back and thank my mentors.”

Hannes Mare dropped pearls of wisdom on building a strong personal brand with PR strategies. He shared that mass media is a great tool in brand management and getting your message across. “Make sure you are always front of mind. Determine what resonates with your audience. Take small steps. Brand building and PR are symbiotic,” he advised.

Before the meeting was concluded, Raymond Chisara introduced the new committee members and encouraged all of them to keep the club going.

Gemma has been appointed as the Sergeant at Arms; her responsibilities include maintaining the meeting room and club property, as well as ensuring that guests feel at home. Musa Mnguni has been appointed as the secretary. His role is to keep clear and accurate records and correspond with Toastmaster international.

Hannes was appointed as treasurer, Maralize Mulder is the Vice President Public Relations; Maboi Mashabela was appointed as the Vice President Membership; Tebogo Mailula has been appointed as the Vice President Education, and Lorenzo Jefferies was named as the new president.
