The skin-deep preconceptions of beauty have been shed as the modern age heralds the recognition of inner beauty as paramount.

With the Almighty in her heart and the spirit of selflessness in her palms, Bridgette Matjuda is diving off the edge of her comfort zone and into an ocean of new possibilities. A semi-finalist in the Mrs Universe Africa competition, Bridgette is launching herself on an inspired mission to bring joy and hope wherever she can through her multi-pronged approach.

No less than five different non-profit organisations are being championed by Bridgette as she strives for the Mrs Universe Africa crown. Holy Saints Ministries, The Lady in Pink Foundation, a Klipspruit-based soccer academy, Jewels Old Age Home, and The Warrior Foundation have all been taken under her gracious wing. “I’m all about fulfilling The Great Commission with His love from above, so the significance of my chosen charities is centred around that,” said Bridgette.

Known by her social media handle QueenBekezela, that name in itself serves as her inspiration. “My mother named my younger sisters and I after the fruits of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5: 22–23. ‘Bekezela’ means perseverance, endurance, tenacity and patience. I had the nickname of Queen B while growing up so I decided to put the two together to create something different,” explained Bridgette, who celebrates her birthday on July 30.

Additionally, the 35-year-old married mother of two girls and first-time beauty pageant entrant is also spearheading a new reading initiative, a book club titled #Readforaneed. “Nothing moves mountains like word of mouth. We’d love you to share this campaign with your friends, family and networks so that we can get a far greater reach. Use the #readforaneed so that we can follow the conversation,” encouraged Bridgette.

Working for the cause, not the applause, she said, “My Mrs Universe Africa journey has been nothing short of amazing. I live to serve and love to help people so this phenomenal platform of Mrs Universe Africa allows my voice to be amplified as I spread my message of love from above. Be the role model that you are looking for. The change you wish to see in this world begins with you.”
