If pulling at heart strings through the celluloid void is your specialty, your opportunity may be waiting.

Pedro White, in collaboration with an upstart non-profit organisation, is calling on actors and actresses to offer their dramatic talents to their feature film about bullying and depression. The Happy Endings Foundation (HEF) focuses on promoting amateur and aspiring artists and the film, titled Top Class is an exploration of the struggles facing the everyday teenager.

The open casting call is predominantly for roles played by teenagers or young-looking adults, but limited roles do exist for 40 to 50-year-old thespians. “The message in the movie is one of unity, acceptance, justice and impartiality. These themes are not only important to young people, but to all people,” said Pedro of the film that revolves around three teenagers who have been victimised in different ways.

“I was doing free storytelling shows at schools before the pandemic. That’s where I realised the need for this kind of inspirational story. After speaking to numerous individuals, I found that many youngsters felt that they could not confide in their teachers or authorities if they experienced bullying or prejudice. There was a sense that the problem would not be seen from a neutral point of view,” he explained.

The film is currently in the casting phase of pre-production, and once completed, distribution will start with free screenings at schools throughout the country. For those under 18, parental permission and supervision are a must, and info about the film can be found on all social media platforms by searching Top Class – The Movie.
