QRS ensures youth stay warm

From time to time emergency medical responders like to do something other than saving lives. Sometimes they prefer to celebrate those lives as well.

In the spirit of Mandela Day, QRS (Quick Response Service) hosted a Blanket Drive for Krugersdorp-based The Bethany House Trust – a child protection organisation that renders specialised child protection services to at-risk children.

According to QRS Director, Lehlohonolo Mpeko, they take on community projects such as this twice a year – one for Mandela Day and one later in the year.

“We usually try to find out where and how we can help and take it from there. For this year’s Mandela Day it was Bethany House that was in need of blankets for the cold winter,” Lehlohonolo explained.

Even though QRS initially asked for blankets, community members decided that a donation to a youth centre needed to include some toys.

“We received more than just blankets; we received bags of teddies and baby products as well. It’s a good feeling to be able to give, and even though we didn’t get to see the children’s faces, we believe they are very appreciative of the donation, especially during the cold we’re experiencing at the moment,” he said.

The donations were delivered on Saturday, July 10 to a grateful and now snuggly Bethany House.

“We thank the community and Krabbel & Babbel Early Childhood Developing Centre for their generous donations. We are looking forward to involving the community in our project later in the year again.” Lehlohonolo concluded.
