Puppies saved from being sold

The puppies were taken to Randburg SPCA before they were sold

Members of Honeydew CPF rescued three puppies from being sold near Eagle Canyon on Saturday, July 17. Communications officer for Honeydew CPF, Michael Steyn said they received a call about the puppies being sold at an intersection. “Our patrollers found someone trying to sell three puppies on the side of the road. We contacted Randburg SPCA who requested us to take the puppies to them.”

No matter how cute the animal may be, refrain from buying pets on the side of the road because it is illegal.

Inspector Theo Mahube from Randburg SPCA said only a registered breeder is allowed to sell animals. Buying animals in this manner is particularly dangerous because the animal’s history is not provided.

“Ninety-nine percent of the time they are sick,” Mahube said. “You don’t know the history of the animal such as vaccinations and whether they have been sterilised. It is illegal to sell animals, especially dogs, on the side of the road.” He said such acts need to be reported to the local SPCA immediately and not supported.

The puppies are currently at Randburg SPCA and eagerly waiting to be adopted.
