The 60-year-old Ngcobo died on Monday, July 12 due to Covid-19 complications after he was admitted to the Krugersdorp Medi Clinic.

“We are grateful for all the contributions he has made to the Department and the City. Heartfelt condolences go to his family, friends and colleagues,” said JPMD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar.

Ngcobo was appointed as the first Chief of JMPD, which was established in 2001 and his employment contract ended in 2013.

“Chief Ngcobo helped JMPD to develop its staff complement from 160 to 2 500.

“They were all former traffic and security officers who had to undergo extra training to be appointed as Metropolitan Police officers,” said Minnaar.
