Life Wilgeheuwel gives hope to couples wanting to conceive

Renowned fertility specialist, Dr Nomonde Gumata, offers expert guidance through personal treatment

Life Wilgeheuwel is proud to announce its new, state-of-the-art Fertility Clinic, the only one of its kind on the West Rand.

The clinic will be driven by the expertise of seasoned fertility specialist, Dr Nomonde Gumata, a 20-year veteran of the medical industry. Her impressive CV includes a Fellowship of the College of Medicine in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, a Fellowship and Diploma in Minimal Access Surgery, and a Certificate in Reproductive Medicine.

Primary services at the Fertility Clinic will begin with a work-up and assisted reproductive treatment where, after thoroughly testing both partners and identifying potential factors contributing to a couple’s infertility, treatment options will be recommended based on their individual needs. “Not all couples and individuals need the most advanced treatments as the first course of action. Conversely, couples and individuals with identifiable factors may experience no benefits from the simpler protocols,” Dr Gumata advised.

All couples experiencing difficulty in conceiving are encouraged to contact Life Wilgeheuwel, regardless of their age or circumstances. Once undergoing the initial analysis, both genders may receive intravenous injections – males can receive intracytoplasmic sperm injections, and their female partners would undergo in-vitro fertilisation (IVF).

“The IVF procedure is the process of fertilising an egg with sperm outside of the human body. This is made possible by facilitating embryo development in a laboratory, instead of in the fallopian tube. Hundreds of thousands of couples and individuals are affected by infertility. IVF offers an effective, tried-and-tested method to aid conception, providing the ideal solution to the frustration and heartbreak that afflict many,” she explained.

“Having a reproductive specialist at Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital offers our community dedicated onsite services that provide fertility treatments, testing, and support from a highly trained professional. With dozens of medical conditions causing infertility, the most important method of treating a disorder is by getting the correct diagnoses. Dr Gumata is supportive and empathetic through every step of the way, and listens to the needs and wants of all her patients,” said Life Wilgeheuwel’s Marketing and Communications Manager, Celia de Koker.

Realising the need for African fertility specialists, Dr Gumata has been on a life-long journey to help bring the gift of life, “Awareness about fertility is key. It is important to seek help early and not wait until you are older; the younger you are, the better the success rate.”

Do not wait for the window of opportunity to close, but take the leap with the expert assistance of Life Wilgeheuwel.
