CANSA gives away a free beanie to those screened on screening day

Perhaps it is human nature that the most important messages are the ones that get constantly overlooked.

To incentivise the public to get a cancer screening this winter, Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) are giving away complimentary hand-knitted beanies. The boutique headwear will be free to anyone who pays for one of a multitude of possible tests that help detect common cancers such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, skin cancer and cervical cancer.

Beanies will only be available for CANSA screening days held every Wednesday from 9:00 to 13:00 at Park Pharmacy on Golf Club Terrace. Experienced nurse, Sister Monica Grové, and CANSA’s Isabel Gomes will be on hand to ensure the process is as smooth and informative as can be. “We can’t stress enough how early detection is key. We won’t just test you, but teach you how to identify early warning signs too,” said Isabel.

Should the Wednesday slot not fit in with one’s schedule, the ultra-accommodating Isabel will help find a way to find a workable solution. “Do not procrastinate. All sexually active women must receive annual Pap smears, all men must check for prostate cancer, and all women must know how to identify lumps in their breasts,” stressed Isabel.
