Baby found in Florida Park rubbish bin

CPF calling on members of the public to please come forward with information

Police are asking for information after a baby was found in a refuse bin on 3 June.

The body of the baby was found in the bin outside a house on Alexander Street. A resident living in the strip between 3rd Avenue and 6th Avenue made the startling discovery around 8.30am, and queries with fellow residents turned up no leads as unfortunately there appears to be no CCTV cameras in that section of the street.

The baby is believed to be a full-term stillborn and was possibly disposed of in the bin between 6am and 8am. “The sex is unknown. It was found in a green packet with the umbilical cord and afterbirth,” stated Florida Community Policing Forum chairperson, Prashn Sukhu. Police and FCPF have been searching for witnesses, and anyone who could assist is asked to contact Florida Police as soon as possible.
