Muldersdrift Police join forces with Tarlton community

Muldersdrift Police along with 12 police stations in the West Rand District initiated a crime-awareness campaign in Tarlton

Social Crime Prevention and communications officers from 13 police stations in the West Rand District, including Muldersdrift, engaged in a crime-awareness campaign on 4 June. Muldersdrift Police as well as government communications conducted police visibility initiatives which included motorcades and loud-hailing as interventions against crime in the Tarlton community.

Muldersdrift Police communications officer, Sergeant Mulalo Ndou said, “The aim of the campaign is to interact with community members and educate them about crime, listen to their concerns, and maintain the relationship between the police and the community.” Community members are encouraged to work hand in hand with the police in the fight against crime, and not take the law into their own hands.

Ndou said the campaign kicked off at the intersection of the N14 and R24 where motorists were cautioned about hijackings in the area, and provided with safety tips on how to keep themselves safe and avoid falling victim to crime. “The awareness campaign proceeded to surrounding plots in Tarlton where the community was educated on preventing housebreakings, theft and child negligence; avoiding drug and alcohol abuse, and gender-based violence; and on issues around missing persons,” Ndou added.

Captain Solomon Sibaya from the Kagiso Police thanked members of the police on behalf of the District Commissioner, Major General Fred Kekana. “We need to engage the community in the fight against crime. Your presence here today in making the awareness a success is highly appreciated.”

Community members are encouraged to work alongside the police and local CPFs in the fight against crime by reporting any suspicious activity.
