Spokesperson for the Diepsloot Police Station, on standby for the Roodepoort area, Captain Tinyiko Mathebula, has confirmed an attempted business robbery.

The beloved Witpoortjie home industry, Koek ‘N Loer, was reportedly the target of an armed robbery shortly before midday today, 5 June.

Spokesperson for the Diepsloot Police Station, on standby for the Roodepoort area, Captain Tinyiko Mathebula, has confirmed the attempted business robbery.

While some Facebook posts suggest that the suspect, who was allegedly armed with a gun,  has been apprehended, Captain Mathebula has said that this is not the case. No suspects have been arrested.

However, MSR Security Group has reported differently, saying that two vehicles were involved in the armed robbery, one suspect was apprehended. According to MSC, the suspects disclosed information regarding the two vehicles allegedly used in the incident. MSC has advised residents to be aware of two Golf Mk1’s, one in black and one in white.

The police have been unable to confirm or deny MSR’s information as yet.

The elderly female owner of the shop, fondly referred to by community members as Tannie Laurette, is reportedly okay but quite shaken up.

This is a developing story. As soon as the Record receives more information regarding the attempted robbery and the wellbeing of Tannie Laurette, an update will be published.
