Attempted housebreaking goes sideways

One of the perpetrators was charging at the homeowner with a crowbar and that’s when he fired a shot.

A Constantia Kloof resident has been left reeling after his house was broken into on 19 May. It is alleged that at around 10am on Wednesday, two men forced open the main gate and made their way into the house. The perpetrators had started to remove the TV when the resident, who was in the shower, heard them.

According to Jaques Kleynhans, owner of Sub-Rosa, the resident took his firearm and went to investigate. “As he walked down the passage, they attacked him with a crowbar and he fired a shot.” The intruder fell and crawled out of the house where the others were waiting in a getaway car – a silver Chevrolet Cruise with registration currently unknown.

Unfortunately the thugs had already fled when the security company and police arrived on the bloody scene.

Sergeant Mpho More from the Florida Police said the resident was unable to identify the suspect. “No arrests have been made, and no injuries were found on the victim. The firearm was taken for further investigation.”
