And the winners for April’s Solve-it Squad are …

With fun, thought-provoking and interesting puzzles, these activity pages in our newspapers have become a huge hit with the younger members of our community.

Moulding young minds and teaching the next generation crucial problem-solving skills should be a main focus wherever you go. The Roodepoort Record and Roodepoort Northsider’s monthly Solve-It Squad pages in the print editions aim to do just that. With fun, thought-provoking and interesting puzzles, these activity pages in our newspapers have become a huge hit with the younger members of our community.

Every month, the youngest Roodepoort residents put their skills to the test hoping to win some interesting prizes, and with a princess hamper on the line, the young girls went all out.

The Record’s winner of the April Solve-It Squad Competition was seven-year-old Cara Swanepoel, a learner at Laerskool Fairland. The April puzzle page was the first one she has completed since the competitions began in September last year, and she loved it. She laughed that they may have been a bit easy, but she wished the Record could do the activity pages more often. When she found out she had won the princess prize, Cara’s face lit up and she let out a scream of joy, saying she had never won anything before, and she was extremely excited for her first win.

The Northsider’s winner of the April Solve-It Squad Competition was Milisuthando Bekwa, a young Radiokop resident who is currently in Grade 1 at Curro Wilgeheuwel. Milisuthando said she loved the activity page and especially enjoyed drawing the different words. When she grows up, she hopes to be either a doctor or a teacher.
