On Monday, 17 May a BOLO was circulated on security groups for a grey Ford Focus and a white Mercedes-Benz A Class with accident damage.
It is alleged that the two vehicles were involved in an attempted hijacking on Totius Road in Poortview, and a reaction officer was shot at with an automatic rifle.
The thugs escaped using Doreen Road on to Hendrik Potgieter Road before the shootout which resulted in one suspect being shot dead.
Members of the public were advised to avoid the crime scene at the Hendrik Potgieter and Doreen/Peter Road intersection, and also the whole of Doreen Road from the Wilro Park side.
The roads have since been opened.
Honeydew Police spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan confirmed the incident and said the matter was being investigated.
“Apparently one of the security guards was shot at. The suspects fled and they are still being sought,” said Captain Muthan.
