Comfort packs and a meal for Matholesville children

The team had some assistance from Spar Strubens Valley and other community members who donated sanitary pads, and appealed to the public and local business to assist with the much-needed items.

Making a difference in a needy and rather vulnerable community such as Matholesville requires good-hearted and generous citizens who give more than is expected of them.

According to a group of friends who have made it a norm to be active and dedicated to helping out their community, there are so many ways one could make a difference in one’s community and to the people who need help the most.

On Sunday, 2 May local children were once again invited to Eyadini Food Caravan in Matholesville for a warm meal of pasta, which is always a crowd pleaser and budget-friendly.

Comfort packs that consisted of sanitary pads were also handed out to young girls after the team had come to realise that in the community many girls are missing large swaths of school time due to being on their period.

“The key purpose is to give your time, ability, and knowledge to help someone else within your community, and that is exactly what we are trying to do here for these kids,” said one of the organisers, Masixole Mafutha.

The team used their own money and abilities in the spirit of generosity to ensure that a meal and sanitary pads were available on the day.

“We all should try to leave a positive mark on the world, and this initiative is the perfect opportunity to give of yourself for a better life.

“Instead of getting bogged down in the day-to-day struggles of life, one should try and get involved in rolling out positive ideas to start making a difference today,” said another organiser, Vuyolwethu Manatha.
