NPO honours graduating students

Davidsonville Recreation Centre bouncing with spirit and enthusiasm

The passing of time has seen the tools of wealth creation evolve from a hammer to a complex connection of circuits and drives.

Synergistic Covenant Network NPO hosted a graduation ceremony for their recently completed Information Technology End User Computing Skills programme on Saturday, 1 May. Almost 60 students from across Gauteng assembled at the Davidsonville Recreational Centre to collect their certificates, enjoy a healthy dose of inspirational tunes and party the afternoon away.

Chairperson of the community-driven NPO, Pastor Anthony Sherman, kicked off proceedings with his trademark fiery delivery. “We wanted to make it special for the graduates as they don’t get to experience this every day,” said the pastor of the extravagantly transformed hall. The end-user programme is designed to give graduates the basic computer skills needed to enter the workforce.

Board members, sponsors and local government were all present in support of a cause close to their hearts. “With the current economic climate and the severe state of affairs we need to open as many doors as possible. It is an honour and privilege to be associated with Synergistic,” said board member, Lancaster Botha, who is a lawyer by trade.

Sponsors Deevan Smith and Darryl Miller of Smith BEE Consultants are an important cog in the Synergistic machine, providing financial and industry support. “This is a well-oiled machine. As an institution that cares, it provides meaning, growth and inspiration,” said Deevan. Ward councillor Rene Benjamin, who has supported Synergistic since their inception, added, “They do incredibly important work. They know what the community’s needs are and they work to fulfil those needs.”

The heart of the organisation are the facilitators, led by Centre Manager, Ellery Booth. “We have a great passion for helping the youth and seeing them grow. I have to praise and thank God because when I look back to where we started I am grateful for all the obstacles we have overcome. Always know that when challenges start, God is present,” preached Ellery.

The certificates flowed before Keagan The Rapper got everyone on their feet, cueing celebrations, photographs, dancing and champagne.
