Staff member at overnight lodge behind Princess Crossing held up at gunpoint

No injuries sustained, and police are requesting any information on the possible suspects

The determination of criminal elements to ruin the livelihoods of the honest leaves no business safe.

Two men, one carrying a firearm and the other a knife, held up the receptionist of a motel on President Road on 3 May. The two men entered the motel between 1.30pm and 2pm under the guise of enquiring about the services offered at the establishment. “While the receptionist was explaining to them how much it would cost to spend a night, one of the men took out a firearm and threaten him, demanding money,” explained Roodepoort Police spokesperson, Captain Juanita Yorke

The thugs then fled, making off with an undisclosed amount of cash and cellphones. “Nobody was injured in the business robbery, and detectives are requesting anyone with further information to come forward,” stated Yorke. The public may report incidents or share information by either contacting Roodepoort Police on 011 279 7400, using the 08600 10111 Crime Stop number or by downloading the My Saps app on their smartphone.

Captain Yorke shared a few tips on how businesses could avoid being subject to robberies, or sustaining sizeable losses when being targeted:

– Do not keep too much money on the business premises
– Be on the lookout for suspicious customers
– Do not keep the shop open till late
– Avoid being alone, especially at night
– Business owners must not open for anyone after the business has closed
– Vetting staff before employment is crucial to good business etiquette
