In the early hours of Thursday, 29 April tragedy struck at a home in Video informal settlement when three armed intruders broke in and left a man dead.
It is alleged that the thugs found a man and his girlfriend asleep. In an attempt to protect his pregnant companion, there was a scuffle between the man and the intruders who shot him in the process.
After the robbers had taken off with electrical goods and cellphones, the woman managed to escape and call for help before the police were called to the scene.
Muldersdrift Police spokesperson, Sergeant Mulalo Ndou confirmed the incident of armed robbery and informed the Northsider that the matter was under investigation.
“Three armed males kicked and broke down the door of a home in Video. When they found the house occupants, the man tried to fight off his attackers but was unfortunately shot and killed.
“The suspects took off with electrical goods that included cellphones and an expensive Telefunken television,” said Ndou.
On the same day, the community of Video informal settlement had a meeting to discuss a way forward with regard to their safety and protection, and concerns were also raised about the police taking an hour to arrive.
